Loving Liberty’s Literary Lounge…

26/04/2011

I can’t wait to spread the word about fabulous luxury publisher Assouline’s new space at Liberty… the Literary Lounge… which I visited today on a detour from a quick browse in menswear. It goes without saying that Liberty is the only place in London to come for a really unique edit of this season’s menswear and I always leave feeling so inspired by the collections and the merchandising.

The space formerly occupied by TEA (the little tea room which was originally and stunningly embellished by Squint) on the ground floor (off the fine jewellery room) has become THE most browsable, covetable jewel of a bookshop-cafe. The room is richly accessorised with fabulous objects (all for sale) and the books are displayed with typical Liberty flair. Assouline publishes simply divine volumes and cover everything from architecture and design to jewellery, hotels, travel, food and other fabulous, life-enhancing  subjects. This space is home to the biggest selection available in the UK…. AND they have collaborated with my beloved Goyard on a special edition book trunk containing 100 Assouline titles… a white and a black version are available to lust after in-store.

  1. How exciting. I must take a trip there and look. I thought this was happening much later than this.

It’s a really inspiring space but leave the credit card at home – everything is too tempting! I also really want to check out the new (ish) standalone V&A bookshop in South Kensington – http://www.vandareadingrooms.co.uk – they have shelving by gorgeous Vitsoe AND a wine bar… let’s go!
